About The Event

Dr. Eric Tutu Tchao travelled to the Future Africa Campus at the University of Pretoria as part of activities under the Future Africa Research Leaders Fellowship (FAR-LeaF) program. DIPPER Lab’s collaboration with the University of Pretoria is exploring the development of open solutions for Safe Food Management. The vision for the collaboration was documented in a video presentation. The visit served as a catalyst for the initiation of research into the applications of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) in the realm of food traceability systems. As a result of the FAR-LeaF research activities, an open and fully decentralized platform for safe food management is being researched. Preliminary findings of the research were presented at the International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence Conference which was held from 14-15th December 2022 in Las Vegas. Dr. Tchao’s presentation at this conference offered valuable insights into the potential of DLTs in enhancing the safety and traceability of food products. The platform developed represents a significant advance in the field of safe food management and is expected to have a substantial impact on the industry. Further research funding is being sought to extend the capabilities of the toolbox to leverage the power that Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning offers in providing a ubiquitous traceability solution.
