Project Description

The Distributed IoT-Platforms for Safe Food Production in Education, Research and Industries (Dipper) project has set up a research lab with a focus on Blockchain and Industrial Internet of Things. The setting up of the Dipper Lab at KNUST and the collaborative PhD/MSc research is a game changer for postgraduate education in the faculty. The new Dipper Lab is an excellent stepping stone to advance applied technologies, build up spin-offs and help our communities and SMEs in Ghana. The prospects of our technicians being trained through faculty stays to be able to manage and use the Dipper lab for the purposes of Research and Development will have a multiplier effect on knowledge transfer within the sub-region. The project is currently supporting 4 Ph.D. research projects which seeks to make a significant contribution to the state of the art in applying Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchain technologies for a safe food production. The Dipper project also has an over-arching goal of bridging the gap by equipping women with the necessary skills in blockchain and sensor-based technologies needed to enable Ghana achieve the objectives of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Industry 4.0.
