Project Description

SESI Technologies' founding aim is to lead the way to no poverty and zero hunger in the developing world by empowering farmers and businesses with affordable technology solutions. They have rapidly developed and established a range of post-harvest products/services (branded as FarmerPack) that have helped more than 3,000 smallholder farmers and 200+ commercial farmers/agribusiness to increase productivity and reduce losses. The key objective for this project is to add a pre-harvest solution to its service portfolio (to be branded as FarmSense), so that it offers 360° Farming as a Service (FaaS) solution jointly with FarmerPack. SESI have already developed a prototype modular soil sensor with integrated handheld reader. The main area of focus now is to develop a predictive data analytics solution that can harness multiparametric data to deliver agricultural insights on crop selection, fertilizer use, and yield prediction. These proactive insights will help smallholders and commercial farmers to increase crop yield and improve their productivity and efficiency. The Africa Agriculture Knowledge Transfer Partnership between DIPPER Lab and Researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University will develop a novel and affordable agritech solution that will leverage predictive data capabilities to provide a new levels of affordable crop insights that will ultimately help smallholder and commercial farmers to address food insecurity and poverty.
