DIPPER Lab Engages CIAT on Scaling Agricultural Innovations
The DIPPER Lab has engaged representatives from the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) to explore collaboration focused on integrating and scaling agricultural innovations.
The engagement forms part of DIPPER Lab’s efforts to strengthen partnerships and expand the reach of its technology-driven solutions.
Dr. Enoch Bessah, Climate and Ecosystem Monitoring Lead, presented a range of innovations including FarmSense, the Smart Indigenous Weather App (SIWA), AgroTrace, FarmCred, and an alternative livelihood project by AINAS.
Also presenting were Ing. Prof. Abdul-Rahman Ahmed, Director of the Rhode and Schwarz RF and Microwave Lab, and Dr. Kwame Oteng Gyasi, who highlighted some of the projects and innovations being developed at the lab.
Discussions highlighted the need to integrate the various solutions into a coordinated system to improve efficiency, data sharing, and impact across the agricultural value chain. Participants also examined pathways for scaling the innovations beyond pilot stages to reach more farmers and stakeholders.
Dr. Wuletawu Abera, Country Representative for CIAT, noted that “closer collaboration could help align research efforts and support the development of larger joint projects.”
The CIAT delegation included Dr. Patricia Amankwaa-Yeboah, Grace Asante, and Dr. Kingsley Ofosu Ampong.
Prof. Eric Tutu Tchao, Scientific Director of DIPPER Lab, stressed the importance of moving discussions into action through collaboration and co-creation.
He also highlighted the opportunities around responsible AI, particularly in analysing risks and biases in credit-scoring systems, noting that DIPPER Lab already has foundational work in that area.
Also joining the meeting were the Deputy Scientific Director of DIPPER Lab, Dr. Andrew Selasi Agbemenu, Dr. Henry Nunoo Mensah, Programs and Training lead and Dr. Prince Odame, Child Health and Innovation lead, who chaired the proceedings.
