Innovate UK and British High Commission Support Scaling of FarmSense
Innovate UK and the British High Commission have pledged support to scale the FarmSense device, developed by DIPPER Lab at KNUST in partnership with Sesi Technologies, to benefit more smallholder farmers across Ghana.
The device combines real-time soil analysis, crop recommendations, and nutrient planning into one platform aimed at improving farm productivity and efficiency.
The launch of FarmSense was held under the theme “From Research to Action: Advancing Agriculture in Ghana Through Industry-Academia Collaborations”
UK partners joined virtually and expressed strong support for the scale-up of the device.
Dr. Tristan Eagling, Climate, Nature and Food Security Adviser at the British High Commission, stated, “Let me reiterate the UK’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s agricultural transformation through science, technology and innovation.
FarmSense is an example of how research and technology can be harnessed to deliver practical solutions to climate and productivity challenges.
Through the UK’s Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy, we’re working together to deepen cooperation in innovation and technology transfer,” he said.
Representing Innovate UK, Richard Lamb highlighted the broader impact of their funding.
“All of our projects create an impact, transforming businesses, universities, and lives for the better. Through our funding, I believe we’ve provided a foundation upon which we are very proud. FarmSense is the result of strong collaboration, and now has the potential to scale and support farmers across Ghana,” Richard Lamb noted.
Speaking on future efforts, John Clayton, KTP Adviser at Innovate UK, emphasized the importance of partnerships.
“Scaling innovation like this means shifting from isolated projects to long term partnerships. That’s the conversation we’re ready to have,” the KTP Adviser said.
FarmSense is funded by the Innovate UK under the African Agriculture Knowledge Transfer Partnership (AAKTP) programme.
DIPPER Lab remains committed to turning research into solutions that respond to real-world challenges.
The FarmSense device is a step forward in using technology to support Ghanaian farmers and expand access to data-driven agriculture at scale.
