DIPPER Lab Trains MasterCard Foundation Scholars on the Use of AI in Education and Research
The Distributed IoT Platforms, Privacy and Edge-Intelligence Research (DIPPER) Lab has successfully led a training workshop on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for MasterCard Foundation Scholars at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The training introduced 49 scholars to practical, ethical, and critical approaches to integrating AI into their academic and research workflows.
The 5 days intensive training programme was developed specifically for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Programme at KNUST.
With the theme "Responsible AI in Education and Research", the training focused on how AI can support academic work without replacing human reasoning, originality, or integrity.
The programme was designed to equip scholars with practical skills in using AI tools for academic writing, data analysis, and literature review.
It also aimed to build the capacity to evaluate AI outputs for relevance, accuracy, and bias.
The sessions reinforced the importance of academic integrity when using AI, and encouraged collaboration through group activities that simulate real-world research projects.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Selasi Agbemenu, Deputy Scientific Director of the DIPPER Lab, along with researchers from the lab: Mr. Nana Kwadwo Akrasi, Musah Ibrahim, Eli Bansah, and Esmond Adjei.
This training reflects DIPPER Lab’s commitment to promoting the adoption and integration of AI tools into teaching and learning workflows in higher education and research environments.
